This ocean, this water by our feet
Will take our dreams,
Yours and mine,
And wash it all away.
It’ll wash away the fantasies, the daydreams,
The nights spent in bed, wondering of a world faraway.

Maybe it’ll carry our dreams away,
Across the vast oceans.
Maybe it’ll pass by a pirate ship,
Where a pirate will pick it up,
Only to throw it away moments later,
Failing to see its worth.

What that pirate doesn’t know
Is that those dreams,
Filled with castles and unicorns,
Crowns and knights-in-shining armour,
Were once our world, our everything.
They were our once-upon-a-time,
Our own bedtime story.
They were our playgrounds on rainy days,
Our light on dark days.

But now, now that we’ve let them go,
Now that the ocean has washed it all away,
What do we have left? What are we, without those dreams?

We are nothing.
