I was doing my math
When the man barged in
We did as he asked
But he still wouldn't grin
My teacher looked calm
But her voice shook with fear
She shuddered and then
She drew us near
I had no clue what was happening
Was this a drill?

As he drew his weapon
The alarm bell rang so shrill
This was no procedure
This was not a drill
The man had one purpose
And that was to kill
My teacher pushed us back
And begged the man no
To spare our innocent live
He harmed her even so
My classmates and I were unprotected
And my teachers blood spilled on the floor

I didn't make it out
It just wasn't my lucky day
I stared on with my friends
As the lights faded away
And suddenly I saw my mother
Just arriving at the scene
Hugging my sisters and brothers
And noticing the absence of me

She didn't give up hope
She didn't go away
Until the officers came out
They said no one else was saved
And then I hugged my mother
Who crumpled to the ground

I know she couldn't feel me
And I couldn't make a sound
But then I was called away
By others who didn't make it out
We held hands together
And circled the ones we loved
We promised to wait forever
Before we were called up above

I didn't make it out
But I am ok
I'm with my friends and teachers
Snug and tucked away
