one mindset
“Jew down the price!”
is what echoes in my brain.
What ignorant people say,
not considering that I am near
not considering anyone’s individuality.
Combining a whole group of people
into ONE
Not looking at the big picture.
“I am half Spanish half Jewish”
I declare when asked my nationality.
Their faces warp into old tree bark
“The Spanish I can see…
but Jewish? I would have never guessed!”
“You don’t
look…Jewish”
ONE person contests
while putting all Jews into
ONE mindset
What does a Jew look like?
The typical stereotype…
Large-out-of-place-doesn’t-fit nose
Frizzy frazzled fro
ONE Jew might look like this,
but all?...I don’t think so
As rich
as Bill Gates, but
as cheap
as a Twinkie
ONE
Jew might be…
But all?...How could anyone believe that?
“Jewish American Princess”
they
label
label
label
Her daddy is a doctor or lawyer.
She doesn’t need to work for anything.
ONE
Jew might be…But all?
Naïve minds think alike
So tell me why I do not fit.
I do not see the humor in these remarks
My curly hair comes from my Spanish father;
and my nose is just my nose.
not the nose
of a Jew
I eat potato pancakes on the holidays,
and accompany them with a Spanish tortilla
One of my parents in Spain
and the other watching me grow
like a butterfly, morphing from a cocoon
Does that make me
less
of a Jew?
Ignorance is not bliss.
So the next time a person blurts
“Jew down the price!”
enforce your opinion and demand
ONE person
Is not many
people
We are not all ONE
