November Galaxies
I like how you always keep the lights off in your room
And allow streams of sunlight to peek through the curtains
How you smell musky with a hint of foreign cologne
The way your bright, always-changing-color eyes
Contrast against your
Coffee-with-cream-colored skin
How you dress in khakis and button ups to buy groceries
And the way you carry your favorite book with you
Even through you’ve already finished it twice.
I love your fascination with the stars
The way you breathe when you’re running out of time to study
How you mumble like a madman before a meal
(But I know you’re really only praying)
And God, I swear when the air was only just a little colder
Through the late nights and early mornings of November
Your eyes sent me love letters every time they blinked.
But now they tell me I had my chance
And now they furry after her.
And I know she has more sex appeal
And I know her eyelashes flutter in a way that mine never will
But does she miss the song in your voice
And the ambition in your step
And the galaxy in your eyes
When you’re not around?
I don’t think she notices.
I don’t think she does.
