Where’s the happy?
It’s what we all seem to be in the pursuit of
A little more money
A little thinner
A nicer, house, car, clothes
Find it yet?

Maybe it’s the meaning of the ring on your hand
Or the little pair of eyes that match yours
How mom never forgets to send a card
And Charley is always up for golf and poker
A pretty satisfied life, no one is complaining
But where’s the happy?

You’re still searching
Grandchildren’s laughter fills the house
Everything starts to creak, even you
This Monday feels like last Monday
You still wait for the happy

Then as days grow slower, and you’ve accepted to never find it
It finds you.

The sun in the morning, when it faithfully rises
The vibrant colors of fall, and the memories of Christmas
The little hands in yours, sitting by your bedside
And you smile, thinking back.
Life. Everything about it and in it.
All the ups and downs, every experience you’ve ever had before that final breath
That is the happy.
