Mortal Monsters

In the dark, I stand alone,
Shaking to my core.
The things that are out there,
Mortal monsters come to take me home.
It’s strange to face
The unknown; oblivion.
But I’ll forget and you’ll forget,
And no one will ever know.
In the dark, I stand alone,
Though I am no longer frightened.
Have I overcome these fears,
Or have I simply accepted what lurks beyond?
