June is born.
My skin is colored like snowflakes.
A brand new “now”
arrives.
The most glorious times
of our entire lives
stand now.
Despite the hardships,
we treasure the gratification
of adolescence:
sports, best friends, and sleepovers.

Eventually,
tans fade,
hair darkens,
nature’s leaves chang,
but memories last
forever.

Maybe the reason

is not just the season
I fear losing,
but the change:
the metamorphosis
of our lives.
from caterpillar
to butterfly.

This season departs
and few are left.
You must cherish this duration
of excellence while you can,
until we enter the winter
of our lives.

The author's comments:
This poem started out being about how much I love and enjoy summer. Through many, many, drafts, I came to realize that I found a very important meaning and analogy. Through this piece, I realized that the 4 seasons (fall, winter, summer, and spring) all relate to the stages we go through in life (child, teenager, adult, elder).
