This One's for You

One, for the girl
Who called me fat
Today in the hall

Two, for the
Disappointed look
On my teachers face

Three, for the boy who
Called me stupid when
I failed a math test

Four, for the people
Who hate me
Because I’m not straight

Five, for the guy who
Lead me on but
Only wanted one thing

Six, for the boy who
Called me crazy
When he saw my scars

Seven, for lack of
Phone calls from the
One who means most

Eight, for the whispers
I hear behind me every
Time I walk down the hall

Nine, for the one mistake
I made that no one ever
Seems to be able to forget

Ten, for the way he
Touched me when I
Told him not too

Eleven, for the banging
On the locked bathroom
Door that I won’t open

Twelve, for the blood
Stained on my new
White t-shirt

Thirteen, for the pain
In my head when I
Hit the tile floor

Fourteen, for the
Fluorescent lights
In the hospital room

None, for when they
All tell me how much
They really love me

None, for the really
Bright smile the
Pretty nurse gives me

None, for the very
Quiet, peaceful
Car ride home

One, for the girl
Who called me fat
Today in the hall

The author's comments:
People everywhere suffer from bullying, girls and guys alike. No one realizes just how much harm it causes them, behind closed doors. Bullying goes a lot deeper than jsut some teenager crying in their room at night. It leads to self harm, severe depression, eating disorders, drug use and in extreme cases, suicide. I don't think we are doing enough to get this to stop, much less acknowledging how much harm it's causing our youth. Sadly, there will be many teens who can relate to this poem, and that's just another crack in our perfect society.
