I’m Beautiful
When I was young I wanted to be perfect, and beautiful inside and out,
I wanted perfect teeth, a perfect body, a perfect everything.
People gave me compliments, and said nice things about me,
But I didn’t see it, I felt like they were lying just to be friendly.
I looked in the mirror everyday and asked myself,
“Why do I look like this? Why was I born this way?”
I always wanted to be like my other girlfriends,
They had it all: looks, clothes, confidence, everything.
And they were beautiful: nice bodies, nice clothes, cool parents.
And me? I felt like I was the complete opposite,
I had goofy teeth, a weird walk, and sometimes I blabbered too much.
I didn’t have any pretty things to wear, and my parents were so overprotective,
I wished I had a different life, I wished I was somebody else, somebody better.
But over the years I grew up and I learned to accept who I am,
I love myself, and I appreciate everything I have.
I have a wonderful loving family, and I have a great personality,
I’m beautiful to myself and that’s what’s important to me.
Sometimes you just have to take a step back,
And don’t look at the things you don’t have, but be grateful for the things you do.
Some people don’t have what you have...
Remember that.
