Ole Yeller
I sat all morning in my bedroom
Listening to music from the radio
At twelve o’clock I ate lunch.
On the porch I met my dog weeping
He had to be put down
And Dr. Jay was saying she wasn’t going to make it.
The puppy cried as I held him
When I cam in, and I was frightened
By a young lady standing up to tell me.
And tell me they were “sorry he is gone”
Words gone through my head,
Away from home I held the puppy.
In his eyes were tears of sadness
At six o’clock we headed home
With the corpse of him ready to be incinerated.
Next day I went into his room
As it felt like forever I missed him.
Wearing his collar around his neck
She lay on the bed where he once was
No since of sickness or sorrow.
He was as rare as a shooting star in the daylight
Brown with white spots impossible to forget
A wonderful dog he was.
