"Mr. Cool"
I see you, standing there with all your friends
They idolize you
You’re ‘cool’.
The tough guy, with his cuffs rolled
And his hair swept to the side.
Captain of the basketball team,
Star soccer player.
You’re ‘Mr. Cool’.
You don’t care about people,
You don’t care about things.
All you care about is you.
You’re all that matters.
Best thing since sliced bread,
Most perfect guy in town.
Yea, I know.
There’s no need to tell me twice.
I know exactly who you are,
‘Mr. Cool’.
You’re the guy who walks through the halls
Telling everyone how you scored the game winning goal last night.
How you had twenty-seven points scored at last weekend’s tournament.
It’s funny,
We only hear about how great you are,
Not how great anyone else is.
You don’t even have a heart.
I get it,
You’re ‘Mr. Cool’.
It’s funny,
How I see different sides of you,
Depending on who it is you’re with.
You’re good with kids,
And you have respect for others.
It’s funny,
How,
In reality,
You aren’t the tough guy,
You don’t really want to be
‘Mr. Cool’.
You care about things,
About people.
It’s funny,
No one knew you actually had a heart.
You go around acting like you’re better than everyone,
Saying things you don’t mean
To people you don’t know.
And really,
It’s funny how,
After all this time,
I’m just now becoming able to figure you out.
I’m able to see right through your little act.
You’re anxious.
You’re scared.
All along, you’ve just wanted to fit in,
To be the center of attention.
But that’s okay,
Because now I know the real you.
I know that,
Honestly,
You don’t care about being ‘ Mr. Cool’.
You care about people,
You care about things.
And,
Buried deep,
Under the rolled cuffs
And side swept hair.
You have a heart.
