My Seventeenth Year
My seventeenth year
Was the year my dad threw his hands in the air
And my parents couldn’t get it together
On my birthday
It was the year
I met a boy
With an unfaithful hand
And taught me the true meaning of betrayal
The year
My brother faced crossroads
And threw on a green beret
And my mother cried
And my father yelled
That was the year
My high school faced sex scandal
And political feuds
And no one really liked each other
Any more
In my seventeenth year
I learned
Everything is nothing
And my bed became my best friend.
