Cool weather penetrates
layers of heavy camouflage clothing
Shooting time seems
like it will never come.
Large cottonwood trees cover
untouched, cold ground.
Sunlight peeks over
harvested corn fields.
Brown cloudy water bursts down
the narrow stream.
Banded Mallard or Redhead ducks,
the trophy to be won.
Decoys lure lucky participants
Powerful polished shotguns lay awaiting use.
With a single small quack,
calls start singing out.
Guns raise immediately taking aim
Gunshots explode!
Birds fall in the sky
like shooting stars.
