Hurricane Sandy
October 29th, Sandy showed up Irene.
Transformed a wondrous kingdom,
into a dangerous sea.
She smiled with satire,
As our expectations were proved wrong,
With Irene’s failed dress rehearsal,
Sandy’s show must go on.
She first assigned generator sparks to become the new street lights.
She then conducted flimsy trees to sway,
As if in a childish tag fight.
She began to let roller coasters swim,
And homes become boats,
Tarnished furniture, belongings, pictures.
How does it feel to loose the one thing you’ve ever known?
Playing a fairytale villain,
She demolished the birds’ beloved powerlines.
Playing God, she buried souls.
But for it was not their time.
Eventually water cleared,
As the nefarious nightmare came to an end.
“Rebuild. Recover.”
But Jersey still stands.
