We are oblivous
Millions of men, women, firefighters are killed in a terrorist attack
Yet we all turned off our televisions and went to bed that night
We are oblivous
Millions of men, women, children are killed in an earthquake devastating a helpless country
Yet we can’t spare a dollar to help keep them from rebuild
We are oblivious
Millions of men, women are killed in a gruesome war
Yet we continue to take advantage of freedom and pay no attention to those who give it to us
We are oblivious
Millions of men, women, children are killed in a hurricane
Yet we are upset that it’s raining
We are oblivious
Millions of men, women, children, policemen are killed in a shooting at a movie theatre
Yet we complain that further showings are postponed
We are oblivious
Millions of teachers, children were killed in a school shooting,
Yet thousands of teenagers will go drinking tonight and choose to risk their precious life
We are oblivous
One perfect man sacrificed his life to save our sinful souls
Yet we can’t take an hour of our day to thank him for giving life back to the millions and millions of us who have and will die. We are oblivious
To death? Or to new life?

The author's comments:
After hearing about the shooting in Connecticut today, I was completely disgusted. Not only at the shooter, but at the world that continues to go on like nothing ever happened. People don't think something like this could ever happen to them, but it can, and we need to help those that it has happened to.
