Reckless Reliance
There are necessities in life that exist.
They make us weary even though they assist.
We may seem strong yet are so fragile,
Hardly able to live or be agile.
Our bodies are filled with lots of water,
Something we can never trade or barter.
Without a drink we would surely die
And shrivel up before we could cry.
We buy and eat food every week,
Otherwise, life would grow dark and bleak.
Meat, fruit, and vegetables are essential
Or birth rate would not be exponential.
Shoes are worn each and every day,
Down the street, by the lake, in the café.
And so our feet have grown soft and tender,
Not walking barefoot without a splinter.
Coats and gloves keep us warm in cold weather.
We are pale, thin, and light as a dove feather.
Thick, black tights cover our frail, twig legs.
If not, goose bumps would be the size of eggs.
The rooftops are covered with tiny shingles.
Homes keep us warm and safe like Heavens’ angels.
Without shelter, we would be cold and wet,
Having nothing to do but whine and fret.
Our gaping mouths take many pills.
If we did not, illness would certainly kill.
They take away the harmful throes
So we don’t end with a dark, fateful close.
Beneath our chests beat our delicate hearts,
Easy targets for life’s ghastly darts.
One bullet and we begin to gush blood,
Spilling ‘til we’re lying in our own flood.
Weak and vulnerable we live in Her realm.
Little do we know, we are not at the helm.
We need to leave behind our foolish adolescence
And rely solely upon Mother Nature’s essence.
