Farewell
As I finish the last few steps,
Slowly everything from the past
Storms into my mind.
I see the first jig practices,
The disgusting flies in the lights,
The blistering cold outdoor performances,
And even Mackers the cat.
As the performance nears the end, I see my teacher
Let a tear slip down her cheek.
She looks so beautiful in her cream dress,
And I can’t let her be sad on this special day.
But I can’t help but let a tear slip down my cheek, too,
Because this performance is a farewell to a close relationship
That lasted my entire childhood.
But then I remembered all the glorious moments we had together,
And I could only hear the laughs that we had
During those hours and hours of practice.
I threw my hands in the air to the finish of a Backstreet Boys song,
And I looked at every one of my friends beaming faces,
And then I caught my teacher’s eyes and smiled,
Because I knew that our relationship would never really end.
