When I Grow Up
I always told stories about what I wanted to be when I grow up as if the day was never going to come
I wanted to be a lawyer who administered a firm hand of justice unto all
I wanted to be a doctor healing the ones that fall
I wanted to be an astronaut so I could wear a cool space suit
I wanted to be a performer so I could own platform boots
I wanted to be a surgeon to perform a laparoscopic appendectomy
I wanted to be singer so I could make beautiful harmonies
I even wanted to be a preacher so I could save thousands of lost ones like myself
I wanted to be a millionaire so I could share all the wealth
I wanted to be a President so I could change international affairs
I wanted to be a movie star so I could have beautiful hair
I wanted to join the army and lay down my life for my country
Well, know I’m almost grown up and I don’t know what I want to be
I’m comfortable with a simple life following God, being happy, and loving my family
I know there’s more to life than this; I just want to be all I can be
