Care for America
When I get to be a composer
I’m gonna write me some music about
Healthcare in America
And it’s going to be a tragic song
Of bankruptcies and illness
And children who can’t go to the doctor
Then I’m gonna change the tone
And add a song of hope
Hopeful like the sun piercing through dark clouds
When people can’t be denied
And care and coverage will come to everyone
Our citizens live longer lives
And children get the care and
Help they need
The song will be heard by everyone in need
In sickness and in poverty
And in health with plenty
The song will be a blanket to cover and to comfort
And an instrument of hope
To bring health to all

This is a parallel poem to Langston Hughes's "Daybreak in Alabama". I wrote it about our healthcare system in the United States and how I feel it should be changed.
