Trapped
Do you ever feel like your whole life is a game?
Pre-planned.
Sketched out in advance.
A food order waiting to be cooked up and served.
Well that’s how I feel.
Trapped.
Think.
As a baby, your parents make all your decisions for you.
You go along with everything they say,
You don’t know any better.
Soon you are tossed like salad into a school of their choice
To learn the basics:
The alphabet.
The colors of the rainbow.
Reading.
And writing.
Then middles school hits you like a slap in the face.
Years of awkward phases and trying to fit in,
Just to teach you how to survive high school.
High school grabs you by the shirt.
Lets you know what you’re getting into.
Be careful,
“They’re watching” he whispers.
He’s talking about those colleges waiting to make their move.
A wild cat on the prowl.
Luckily high school let’s you hang loose senior year.
These past four years have prepared you well.
And you are at the top of your game.
So you enter the big leagues.
College.
You are finally independent.
And free.
But what is college really for?
Why we all feel so obligated to attend?
To learn how to make a living through a desired career.
So you are capable of raising a family,
And let’s not forget a stable income.
And you do it.
You get married and have children like you have always dreamed of.
But then what?
You have achieved everything your life has been building up to all along.
And there you are.
Your kids are off to college.
And you are left to share a house with a hopefully loving husband/wife.
But a new door slides open.
You find yourself passing your children’s old clothing onto their children.
You play a small role in their lives.
Being the grandmother/grandfather they will remember forever.
Then your life comes to a close.
It has flashed right before your eyes.
But you are ready to leave these grounds.
You have done everything you were supposed to do in life.
You have followed many other human beings.
Lived a life full of memories.
You have felt every emotion that exists.
You cannot begin to count the number of people who have come in and out of your life.
But is that really enough?
Are you satisfied?
Sometimes I just feel
Trapped.
