Mariposa
women want to be
 delicate, soft,
 beautiful
 but
 with the strength
to grow and change, to become
something no one ever expected them
 to be, something
 that has improved and evolved
 in a metamorphosis, so
 complex, so simple
 so perfect, so
 enduring
 no one ever really knows
 how they do it
 they want to be
the words on your lips, the
 fluttering
 feeling in your stomach
 making you nervous, making you
 feel, making you
 alive
 they want to
 overcome
 like their mama
and her mama, and her mama
 before her
 tucking each daughter to sleep,
 whispering
 be strong, baby girl,
 mi mariposa,
 my butterfly
