Shattered Hope
Like a balloon made of glass,
My hope lifts off the ground,
Tentative but sure,
Like my heart,
It beats on; determined,
But shatters at slight touch,
Any day,
People can ask,
Always telling,
And into their hands goes the glass,
My balloon of hope,
A heart to break,
I never let the smile fade,
Just watch; While my dreams fade,
You let go of the glass,
The pieces shatter and fall,
Fragments of a dream which no one believed,
Just enough to cut deep,
Glass rains down,
Floats in my blood flow,
A red river of disappointment,
Tears meant to fill the hold,
After I've let go,
I keep filling balloons,
And handing out hearts,
Every time,
It just hurts.
