Human Falling
Life, let’s stage a play for one last time,
And I’ll play my morbid role void of any guilt,
Lest you forget the meaning of your last line,
And fail in meeting my chest with your dagger’s hilt.
Life, I fear no end, only how the ending feels,
I hope doubting makes me human, I’ll settle for no less
Than a last breath to strike my supple skin to steel,
If in death there’s no embrace, then in life was no caress.
Life, you’ve built me, now destroy me; be gentle but not kind
To drop me from the ceiling, for I wish to see the stars,
As I recall the people that spangled the horizons of my mind,
From the heavens to the pavements, the distance is not far.
Life, your branch’s grip is too strong; I fear I’ll never fall,
Only that I’ll fall from glory, into human nature’s thrall
