It's Only Time
Time greeted me in my dreams one night.
And although I begged Him
For just a few minutes more—
He still knocked at my door.
White sheets wrapped round my body,
Flowers in my hair,
The ceremony is interrupted by
The ticking of the clocks—
A constant reminder that
Time is immortal, but we are not.
I was just a little girl when Time
Broke down my door—
Entering my haven without my sanction.
One creak at a time,
Rhythmically, He crept in
On me, on my life—
Eyes shut, fingers crossed,
I sat; I waited.
Minutes, hours, days
Passed me by—
Never knowing when Time
Would send me spiraling to my demise.
Finally, I saw his shadow,
And now he was tap-tapping on my closet door
And with no where else to turn,
I opened my eyes
And greeted my fear—
Time has no remorse—
I was only a child when He came knocking at my door.
