A Night Away
We decided not to go;
those things were lame anyways.
Why waste the night and do
what everyone else was doing when you could
lie on a beach and fall asleep to the waves
gently rolling up the shore.
Just a few blankets and a few mini bottles of
juice was all we needed to make ourselves warm and comfy.
we staring up into the heavens
trying to decipher the vast collection of glowing gases.
In the blink of an eye we spotted Orion’s shot and
hoped for this night never to end.
We laid there, her head on my chest,
my arm holding her close and keeping her warm,
listening as she slowly drifted to sleep
knowing this is how it’s all supposed to be.
