I'll never forget
The velvet snow drifts
Bundling the streets
Into aching silence
And I'll always see
That lithe lacy gray
Delicate as breath
Descending like grace
The image remains
Of clumped icy branches
Bobbing on the wind
So old and content
Mostly I'll remember
The cold on my face
And the way you whispered
“Welcome.”

It was the first heavy snowfall of the season, and I was out for a walk. It was so beautiful it hurt. Everything was white and gray, and not in a gloomy depressing way. Like I wrote, it was graceful and elegant and welcoming. I hope people realize that winter's not a dreary, dead season, but has so much beauty of it its own.
