She Didn't Know
As I stumble upon the boxes,
A little white one strikes my eye.
I open it up and find an article,
Of my dad and mom’s wedding.
My dad,
Wearing a black tuxedo,
And blonde hair to match mom’s.
He wore a fake smile.
My mom,
Wearing a floral white dress,
Looking happier than I’ve seen in years.
She wore an honest smile.
She didn’t know though,
That 2 years later,
This man would be imprisoned for rape,
This man would be out drinking while she gave birth.
She didn’t know,
That 2 years later,
She would divorce him,
Breaking apart our family,
And being single with a teenager and a newborn.
Back then,
She didn’t know.
She was just happy.
