Favorite Quote:
&ldquo; The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.&rdquo; <br /> ―Carlos Castaneda

Imagine a world without books
Nothing to read, to picture, to hold
No alternate worlds for the lonely to escape into
No pages for the wind to flip and flutter
No paper confines for a bookmark to rest between
Nothing to fill a colossal, bare library
No information treasured by a young child eager to learn
Nowhere for the dust to collect
No more creased spines or dog eared corners
Not even the smell of your favorite old story
A mix of tangy ink upon old pine
How empty would the world be
If there was nothing left to read?

The author's comments:
this poem was inspired by John Lennon's song "imagine". I love to read and when my creative writing class was assigned to write a poem based on the song, I imagined what a horrible place the world would be without books!
