_You_

Remember that time last winter?
Remember when you told me everything
Would be okay, everything would be alright?

Remember how you told me
To keep holding on
Told me to stay in the light.

Remember how you taught me to walk
Taught me to talk
And then turned around and did it again
When I forgot.

Remember when you gave me an arm to lean on
A shoulder to cry on
And a smile that said everything
Would be okay, everything would be alright.

Whatever happens, happens
And that’s what really helped.
And for the most inconsequential problems
You always understood.

Remember how when I had given up
You said to never lose hope
Sometimes that’s all we have.

You brought me out of there
You gave me wings
And told me to fly.

Well, fate really has a cruel sense of humor
Because now I’m free and clear
But you’re the one falling, feathers burning.

And I don’t know how to do what you did for me
I don’t know how to tell you everything
Will be okay, everything will be alright.

All I can hear is you saying
That you can’t do it anymore
And everything I do only seems to make it worse.

Because no matter how ungrateful I seemed
You taught me everyone can make a difference
And I have to try.
