Favorite Quote:
Nothing Gold Can Stay:
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Winter folds on us
Like a scrap of delicate paper
Its fingers working around us
Scuffing our edges.
Hear the clock tick
The promise of heavy cold in every sound.
And still the lone bluebird sings
Mourning it’s lost world
Finding a place in this one.

In English class last year, we did a very interesting exercise. My teacher told us to daydream, to enter our "mind's palace", and write down everything and anything that came to us. It was such a wonderful experience, and this is what inspired me to write this piece. I just let my mind open, and the words flowed out. This piece was written while thinking about the cold Chicago winters. I hope people can truly understand the physical and emotional cold of a seriously chilly winter!
