Friendships Lost

Why'd it have to end like this?

We were so close, like sisters,

Yet so far apart, like strangers.

I told you secrets I could never tell my own mother,

And you did the same with me.

I tried so hard to tell myself that it wasn't happening;

That we weren't falling apart.

Our friendship was like a relationship;

Held together by love and trust.

But as I look back,

I finally realize how much it fell apart.

As time passed by,

Little cracks began to form.

They wiggled their way in,

And kept digging deeper.

And now, our friendship is shattered,

Almost like glass.

Once glass is broken,

You can't put it back together.

Just like you can't straighten out,

A piece of crumpled paper.

I doubt things will ever be the same,

Seeing as how far apart we've come.

But I'll always remember you as that friend,

The girl who saved my day.

Our goodbye was just silent,

No words spoken aloud.

But now, you're just a memory.

One that will,

Forever and always,

Remain in my head.

This perfectly says what happened between my ex best friend and me. We were close like sisters, told each other secrets no one else knew, and then we broke apart, shattered just like glass. I really love your last four lines; they're like a huge light just throwing the truth out there for all to see.
