Being a slave
I have no sleep I have no rest
I’m no ones belonging, my heart’s distressed
Darkness is only what I know; darkness is only what I see
It’s been here for ages, now its apart of me
Tears clear as rain, thought loud as thunder
Do you ever sit down and try to wonder?
Bells on our heads, sound of whip on our backs
It hurts no more! Why don’t you wound me with an axe?
You sold my child away, and put my future on hold
Just so you can have the life, while we work in the cold
I am intelligent and I am strong
I don’t represent right nor do I represent wrong
This isn’t partial this isn’t life
It’s the same battle every night
 Rising hope yet loosing faith
Lost with direction, give me push toward the maize
Give me strength in my one moment
 Give me courage and endurance
I want to read and I want to think
I have to speed so I can win
I want to sleep and I want to rest
I want to belong to someone, so my heart won’t be in distress
