Sadness
Always there
Cutting off my other emotions
And senses
So I can't process
Anything else
It has been there for so long now
I don't think it will ever leave

I know why it's there
And I know that I caused it
But no matter
What I do
What I say
It will not go away
It only stays there
Leeching every other sensation
Away from me
And leaving me
An empty shell

I begin to cry
again
the sobs
wracking my body
back and forth
back and forth

The tears fall
As rain does
What do tears fall just as rain
But leave our hearts
With a different cry?

The question
goes round and round in my head
And remains there
As I cry myself to sleep

Why do tears fall just as rain
But leave our hearts
With a different cry?
Why?

The author's comments:
This is one of the three poems that I like, out of every poem I've written. The question highlighted in this piece was asked by a good friend of mine at a poetry seminar we went to together. My answer to this question, though it may be different from yours, is "For tears are the rain of our emotions."
