The world goes round,
safe and sound,
and look here,
at what I found.
A flower that is
white and new.
With the scent of
a mornings dew.
I pick it up,
from the ground it releases,
but to my horror,
it falls to pieces.

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this poem shortly after learning about the delicate nature of the Trillium. A little while after, my mother died and I read this poem at her funeral. Now I am always reminded of her when I read it.
