For My Father
Today we’re meeting across time.
Sand is falling fast, so listen before it’s gone.

You changed for us, but we never changed for you.
Once a fearsome figure looming over the light,
Now a cloud gifting comfortable shade,
 Saving me from unforeseen rain.

Calloused hands of a hardened soul.
I want to give you the world
To pay prices that will never be fulfilled.
So many beautiful words, words I didn’t deserve.

We’re drifting back into our spaces and time
You’ve done all you can and more
 You’ve given me everything
So please rest your weary eyes
And wake to a new day.

 “We’ll both do our best.”
