Searching for solace,
The black gates close.
Their cold, iron bars
Protecting my mind.
Drifting, dreaming
Of things far away.
The future.
The past.
Anything but now.
The darkness swallows the light of day.
If only it took
My thoughts away.
I don’t live “day-to-day”.
I live
Moment to moment.
Breath to breath.
Struggling,
Clad in chains;
Fighting with myself,
Leaving scars behind.
The future glistens,
Promising;
Hopes that will never last.
Dreaming of the present,
That will soon be the past.
