A Verse

There's a verse
ringing out in my head
notes and words
playing out
softly;
Then I stand up.
The ringing is gone
The words mean nothing now
The notes are dead and void
And more importantly, the verse is
gone.
Simply gone.
A sharp vacuum where it used to be.
Is suddenly filled by emotion
Little, insignificant emotion
I want to brush it aside
So I can hear the verse
But I can't
I can't hear it
I can't feel it
I can't even remember it
I wonder what it was like?
But it's gone now
Such a fluid verse
abandoned and replaced
with these cold, staccato feelings
Cadence where a symphony should be
So empty now.
