Dear writer of war’s silent hostage
We wish for happy tomorrows
And they gave my cousin a gun
Told her to serve for money
The whispers she not dares to show screams through her
I hear them whisper by my ear
And I too am sorry for war
I too fear, and my strength fades with rain
Why should I cry when the skies cry for me?
And why should they go
And why should we stand still and watch
And why should we let them wither in front of us
I want to talk about you
And I want you to know I feel
And I want you to know I understand
I want to talk about giving up and how it makes life easy
When life gets rough
And lady liberty’s flame is cold
But warms against our angst
Our fear our sweat our love…
I want to talk about getting to know you
And to help your guilt feel less
Why is it so easy for me to forget she is there?
But now I can’t forget when
You remind me to remember
Thank you
