Kiss the Stars
Right now, when I’m at my desk
And you’re in your dorm, you’re approximately
 Too far away.
I’d make it less, if I could.

 I’m not giving up;
 I’m letting go.

Letting go of things left unsaid
 Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve…
None of that changes the fact that I
 Didn’t

 But that’s in the past:
Dwelling on it doesn’t do anything but
Prevent me from healing up my
 Broken heart
Now I see it two ways:
I can either be miserable (without you)
Or I can be at peace (without you)

 Acceptance brings me peace, sure
But it also brings me a restlessness
Because I am free now; free to be happy
A bird that’s just been released
From a cage made out of good intentions
And of bashfulness and of naivety
After the world being so small for so long, it opens up:
Rules that always had to be followed
 Don’t matter anymore.

 Alone.
 Without you.
 Just me.
 And that’s enough.

 Shhhh. Be quiet, my dear.
Sit and listen to the magnificent sound
Of a nervous heart growing wings
 And flying away.
