It's not butterflies
I am from the blue house on the hill next to the elementary school and big field
I am from friendly neighbors and long term friends
I am from sounds of rain on the window in the summer
And sounds of laughter as people throw snow at each other in winter
I am from the smell of fresh cut grass and flowers
I am from a lawn full of daisies and a crab apple tree
I am from a small town nobody ever knows

I am from a father who has given me everything I could possibly imagine
A mother who I will always love
And a sister who treats me like a mother should
I am from white Christmases and ice cream filled summers
I am from two separated parents that keep peace
I am from visits to my family in the summer
I am from a Thai grandmother who sets my mouth on fire with her cooking
I am from an aunt who I admire as I hear of everything she’s gone through

I am from getting lost in books for hours on Sundays
 Waking up lazily on Mondays
I am from movies nights and dinner dates
And love letters on the table at macaroni grill
I am from visits to my second family
I am from blaring my favorite tracks and singing in the shower
I am from never fearing what people will think

My future is a blank page in front of me and I am holding the pen
My future is full of many split ends and a solution to them
My plans to go to Paul Mitchell and be successful is all laid out for me
I am headed to not stopping until I get where I want to be
