Changing Tides
Today I sat
And watched my best friend cry
The tears slowly slid down his soft cheeks
Making tracks in the mask of pain
That he wears so often lately
I sat and watched and cried
As my best friend told me
The words I knew would come
I want to touch his hand
 Hug him close
 Hold him tight
 But I can’t
Because that would make things worse
Because I am the one who is hurting him
My best friend who knows me so well
My best friend who cares so much
My best friend who shares my thoughts
My best friend who I cannot love
 Loves me
