Breathing in and out
eyes closed
chubby hands relaxed
and tiny body curled.
Life has just begun
for this little one.

Breathing raggedly
eyes wide and afraid
fists clenched in pain
and slender body shuddering.
Life is about to end for this new mother.

Two separate lives
linked by blood.
Life beginning and ending in one room.

You know how they show births on Discovery Health and stuff? Well, the mother and the baby ALWAYS survived, but I wanted to think about how it would feel if something went wrong.
