Promises Promises
Forever
is a three letter word.
L-i-e.
Because
somebody wrote on the window
and smudged it,
libel;
let me tell you, "babe"
your hands are looking
mighty
dirty.
Would you believe me
if I said
"I don't need you"?
And to think
I almost changed my life
for you.
And to imagine
forever
with you.
And to remember
every night
we talked
sang
shared
and
I cried.
I don't see
you
anymore.
It's more like I see
lie
lie
lie
raising up hopes
I'd rather you'd just
left me
where you found me.
Would you believe me
if I said
"I understand"?
You know
you can't run from
you,
and I guess I can't
either.
You filled me
with all those
hopes,
promises,
l-word
adorations
with my crossed fingers
for hope
and yours
for going back
on your f---ing word.
I'll live in a cage
since
you live in a cave
and I know
this makes no sense
but darling,
~"it's not worth the trouble"~
to
decipher me,
anyway.
