Summer at Night
When the purple shades of violet
night petals blossom in the sky
I reach out as to caress the flower’s head.
The summer air has taken on a sticky sweetness
 and my body is enveloped
by warm sweat and sunshine stripes
from where my clothes and skin met in the sun.
 The day retreats into twilight
and fireflies come out to greet the world
 for the first time
 it finally feels like summer.
