It's unexpected.
Powerful, mighty, strong.
It will knock you on your knees.
Tricky, too.
First, there are butterflies.
They smile back at you,
while they flutter inside.
Then, you fall.
Fall so fast, so far, so hard.
It's amazing. It's new. It's beautiful.
It sparkles, like diamonds, in the sun.
Still for a moment,
you listen, you look, you breathe,
and then it comes.
Powerful, mighty, strong.
Sends you ten steps back.
You take another.
The second hit, ten steps back.
Eventually, you're back on the shore,
laying on your back,
right where you started.
Soaking wet, it left it's mark,
but only for a while.

This poem is inspired from another poem I read on TeenInk called The Wave.
