Opening the Paint Can
A plain white expanse of wall
stands afraid.
Afraid of any blemish,
any crack,
any mark on his so-called beautiful surface.
Mr. Clean is the wall’s trusty friend,
erasing any evidence of imperfection.
He rejects any color or design,
determined on keeping a monotone personality.
The reflection of the unadventurous man:
denying any chance to change his life into a story,
avoiding bold, daring situations,
sticking to his routine:
smooth combed hair,
fresh clean shave,
crisp, uncreased suit.
These people stand as the white walls,
in our homes,
in our lives.
It’s time to crack open the paint can.
