All Too Familiar Words
Just friends
Of course this has happened again
I felt like it might work this time
I tried as hard as I could
Felt like I wanted you bad enough.
Just Friends
I should have given you more time
More time to think this through
More time to make a different move
I guess it just wasn’t my place.
Just friends
I tried to help you through your pain
Thought about you nonstop
Tried to give you someone to talk to
Someone to take your pain away
Someone, when there was no one left.
Scarred from rejection
Depressed from loss
I summoned the courage to make one final request
But only got the answer I have come to know all too well
The dagger through my chest that is
“Just Friends.”
