As We Discuss Running Away Together and I Reflect Upon My Past Silently
hot pink lacquered fingernails
trying to cover up the dirt underneath
trace your pure and innocent bones
so naïve with clean white sheets
and kisses up and down your cheeks
 with your own disaster signaling
it will never be time to remember
 this moment and cry

down your neck and under the sheets
 playing make believe and kissing
 my chest gently and saying
 "that's just a little protection
 for that heart of yours"

it's quiet and i still hear the words
 of songs long over, songs
 that don't mean anything anymore
burying my head in your shoulder,
releasing my shame for the first time

for the first time i believe it
and for the first time i felt it in your kiss
no guilt, no shame, and tonight
 there will be no regrets
