Caged
Trapped
Trapped inside my own little world
 Behind a door
 Behind a gate
 Behind bars
 That refuse to budge
The one that holds my key
One in a sea of many
 Fate shall bring them here
 To me
The one to open my gate
 Set me free
 Caged canary
 The cat laughs at me
 Through twisted bars
 And rusting lines
 So many faces pass
 They peer in at me
 Hold up their key
Shining ones made of jewels and gold
 They shall not fit
I sigh at their weak attempts
 To uncage me
 to set me free
 They leave me once more
 Alone
 So very
 Alone
 Yet I don’t despair
For the one shall be here
 Shortly
He comes and hold up a key
 Made of tarnished metal
 It is small
 Rusted and cheap
He turns it in the lock
 It opens my gate
 Sets me free
 And so we go
 Happily
 But I look back
 To the gates
 The bars
 And hopefully
 They shall shut
And no one will be inside
 But alas this dream is
 Futile
 For no matter how many
 Little canaries are uncaged
  A new one flitters in
 And the gates shall shut
 The twisted bars
 And the rusting lines
 Shall make them say;
 “Find my key
 Set me free”
