Life Is: The Sounds I Hear

Life is the sounds I hear
My sister brushing her hair
And humming a random tune
The swish of jeans in the hallways
Jingling of my dog's collar
That same creak when someone walks down the stairs
Or up the stairs
Cars going past our house
And wind moaning by my window
Tree branches hitting the glass
Cracking and groaning as they move
The taps of my fingers on the keys as I type
Shifting in my beanbag
Sighing as I readjust my position
The kettle in the kitchen
Clink of metal tins
And bam! Of the drawer when I take out a spoon
To make my morning tea
The sliding glass door
The cold air whistling through the crack
When it's not shut quite all the way
The stomp of feet when I have a tantrum
And don't act my age
The whine of voices who don't want to do school today
Whine of dogs to go and chase those squirrels
Twittering of birds outside on the feeders
The beauty of a thunderstorm
The hush of snowfall
The stillness of humid summer
The pattering of rain on the roof
Life is the sounds I hear
Those that make up my everyday
